Student welfare in each Year Group will provide support in three main areas:
Support, Advice & Guidance
Student welfare provides focussed support and guidance for students/families who are struggling to cope or that may have concerns. This area forms a large part of our work and some of the issues that students may need help with are as follows;
|Bereavement (Loss /change)
|Smoking/Alcohol and other
|Understanding and managing feelings/emotions
Parents and students can request support directly at school or by the student welfare email for each Year group;
Mental Health Information
Each fortnight information regarding an aspect of Mental Health will be added here
Algee and Depression
If more intensive support is required the team can access multi agencies through the process of completing a Common Assessment Framework (CAF) form or single agency referral. Some of the agencies we work with are as follows;

Relationship advice and support
In order to continue to provide the best holistic support for students we have secured the services of Brook. Brook are an agency that provide information, support and services for all aspects of a young person’s personal relationships including healthy relationships, sexual health, contraception etc. This service will complement the learning that takes place in Personal Development lessons and the work that the Year support staff do with individuals.

Together we can provide comprehensive support to enable students/families to overcome and manage difficulties in their lives so that students are supported in order to be able to reach their full potential. There is an open door policy for students to see student support staff. In addition, student welfare organise workshops for students to be able to participate in learning about issues that may affect their lives i.e. managing emotions, alcohol, sex & relationships and managing money etc…
Advice from Action Counter Terrorism
In September 2017 Counter Terrorism Policing launched the latest ACT: Action Counter Terrorism campaign designed to help educate 11-16 year olds on how to stay safe in the event of a terrorism incident.
Previous Stay Safe/Run Hide Tell messages have been specifically designed for an adult audience but following tragic events in London and Manchester the need to make the advice accessible to a wider and younger audience is now critical.
The threat level to the UK from international terrorism remains at ‘SEVERE’, meaning another attack is highly likely. The police and their partners continue to work tirelessly to identify and disrupt the threat from terrorism. Operational activity is complemented by wider, proactive work to increase awareness of how the public can help to keep themselves safe. This includes Run Hide Tell messaging to ensure that citizens have access to advice on how to protect themselves in the unlikely event of a weapons of knife attack.

Information and Leaflets
Attendance is monitored by the form tutor in the first instance and this is the first point of contact for parents regarding attendance. However, should there be difficulties then student welfare are able to follow this up. We work together with students and families to support attendance and overcome any issues, as there are clear links between attendance and attainment. Together with the Local Authority Attendance Officer Service we are able to monitor and manage attendance for all students.
If behaviour becomes a concern for any reason the pastoral team are able to give support to assess the student's issues and so that the appropriate support can be given. This support may be given 'in house' through student support plans or reports which set the students targets and strategies to improve behaviour. These are monitored and reviewed periodically to ensure progress. Other support may be accessed through other agencies through the Common Assessment Framework Procedure (CAF Form) or referral to other external agencies.
