      Harlington Upper School is a large, successful upper school with a strong local reputation for high levels of student achievement. The school was established in 1974 and has sustained very good levels of performance for many years. Our Ofsted inspection of October 2013 confirmed that we are a good school with many strengths. We are now poised and ready to grow our already successful school into an outstanding one. 

      We have a unique location in Central Bedfordshire. We are placed in the heart of a rural environment but have strong urban links. Harlington is one mile from junction 12 of the M1 and has a train station with commuter routes to London and the Midlands. 

      There are currently approximately 1240 students in the school, including 310 in the sixth-form. Students join the school in year 9 after attending one of three main feeder middle schools. 

      Our priorities for improvement are focused firmly on developing teaching, learning within a developmental and supportive environment.

      Teacher of History

      Full Time

      Teacher of Music (Maternity Cover)

      For March 2019

      A well-qualified and enthusiastic teacher of Music is required for Maternity Cover for March 2019 to join a successful and dedicated department.  The Music department is committed to providing high quality teaching and learning for all students.  

      The successful applicant should be qualified to teach at KS3, GCSE and A level.  Proficient keyboard skills would be advantageous.  They should be enthusiastic about the teaching of music and show a willingness to participate in and contribute to the development of music in the extended curriculum.

      Library Assistant

      Hours: 37 per week (8am start)
      Salary: NJC Level 4A point 21 -24 (£20,541 - £22,401 – pro rata)
           Actual Salary - £17,807 - £19,419)

      We are looking for a Library Assistant who can  manage, develop and promote the library to students, staff and parents. To ensure that all students and staff have ready access to as broad and relevant range of reading matter, reference materials and research tools as possible, in order to support teaching and learning throughout the school, facilitate independent learning and encourage reading for pleasure.

      Learning Supervisor

      Hours: Up to 30 per week
      Salary: NJC Level 3D points 18 - 21 £18,870 - £20,541 pro rata
                  Actual Salary for 30 hours £13,264 - £14,438

      The purpose of this post is to cover lessons in a teacher’s absence.  This is a very important role in the school, helping young people to maximise their potential and supporting the school community as a whole.  This post may be suitable for someone with an interest in developing a career in school or as the first steps to a career in teaching.

      We are looking for a Teaching Assistant who, under the instruction and guidance of teaching staff/managers, will undertake educational activities and attend to the educational, personal and social needs of students in order to support their learning and development and to ensure their safety.
